Basic Needs

Emergency Fund

This emergency fund is helping CSUMB students experiencing a need due to a crisis or catastrophic event.

The global COVID-19 pandemic brought with it unprecedented disruption to all of our lives. Every Otter – whether they are in Monterey, across the country, or around the globe – has been impacted by this public health crisis.

CSUMB is constantly monitoring the rapidly evolving nature of this health emergency and continuously working to keep our community safe. Our top priority is the health, well-being, and safety of those on our campuses and the community at large.

We are helping our students stay on track with their studies to finish the academic semester successfully with online learning, and providing essential services to those who must remain on campus.

The impact of your gift

All donations received to the emergency fund provides CSUMB students with financial help that can provide peace of mind and aid in their academic success. Like you, our students have been impacted by this crisis, which has resulted in emergency needs including: housing; technology accessibility and connectivity; child care concerns; and food.

Any amount can quickly add to fulfill student requests, which are increasing at a higher rate due to the ramifications of COVID-19. Your support will provide critical resources to students so they can make rent payments on time, cover medical costs if ill, and have the technology resources they need to attend online classes.

Please consider a gift to the Basic Needs Emergency Fund, which provides assistance and relief to our most vulnerable students.

Examples of how your donation can provide student support:

  • $25 = e-grocery card, good to use on food related purchases
  • $100 = utilities
  • $200 = computer, hotspots or other necessary technology for online classes
  • $500 = rent

Applying to the fund: If you are a CSUMB student experiencing a crisis and need financial help, please apply for assistance.
