The Koret Scholars Program is made possible through a gift to Cal State Monterey Bay by the Bay Area’s Koret Foundation, and offers funded undergraduate research opportunities in the social sciences. 

A Mentored Research Experience

As a Koret Scholar, you’ll be individually mentored throughout your research experience by CSUMB faculty, with a goal to disseminate research regionally and nationally at conferences. Benefits of the program include:

  • Development of written communication skills and graduate school preparedness
  • Writing support for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships
  • Peer support and engagement through the program’s cohort model
  • Networking opportunities with the Koret Scholar community in the Bay Area

An Exceptional Research Opportunity

To be part of the Koret Scholars Program and be considered for funding, students must:

  • Be a matriculated student at CSUMB
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have at least a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Be a first-generation student (preferred, not required)
  • Be committed to academic research for the academic year
  • Conduct academic research in the social sciences

Applications will open for the following term. For the Spring 2026 program:

  • Deadline to apply for a research scholarship will be December 10, 2025.
  • Deadline to apply for course credit only will be February 2, 2026.
