California State University, Monterey Bay resides on the Indigenous homeland of the Esselen people (also known as Carmeleno, Monterey Band and Rumsen). On this land, the university provides an education grounded in service and experiential learning for a diverse community of students.

As students, staff, faculty, alumni and visitors explore the campus, we encourage respect for the land and awareness of its natural beauty and cultural significance. We recognize that ancestors rest beneath pathways and in areas across campus.
