Outside Enrollment
Explore opportunities to take classes at other colleges, join exchange programs or study abroad while staying on track to graduate.
Explore Broader Academic Opportunities
Cal State Monterey Bay students can take classes at other CSU campuses, community colleges, University of California (UC) schools and some graduate partners. These programs let students earn credit, explore new subjects and stay on track to graduate. Many courses are low-cost or free. Outside enrollment offers more course choices, flexible options and the chance to learn from different instructors and classmates, without needing to transfer or reapply.
Take a Course at Another CSU Campus
CSUMB students may enroll in courses at other CSU campuses without a separate application. These options support academic progress and access to specialized classes.
As a CSUMB student, you have access to additional online learning opportunities through CSU Fully Online. This program allows you to take one fully online course per term from another CSU campus, without paying extra tuition.
These courses are entirely online and do not require in-person attendance, giving you the flexibility to explore new topics while staying on track to graduate.
Program Highlights
- Enroll in one course per term from any of the 23 CSU campuses
- No additional tuition if you are already enrolled full-time
- Credits count toward your degree at CSUMB
- Maintain enrollment at CSUMB while broadening your academic experience
Eligibility Requirements
To participate, you must:
- Have completed at least one term at a CSU as a matriculated student in a state-supported program
- Have earned at least 12 units at your home campus (Incoming transfer students may enroll in their first term without meeting the 12-unit requirement)
- Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or higher

- Have paid full-time tuition or have pending financial aid that covers it
How to Apply
- Log in to your CSUMB student portal
- Click the Enroll in CSU Fully Online link in your Student Center (only available during the enrollment period)
- Select your desired term and course
Your eligibility is checked automatically. If you qualify, you can submit a request for enrollment. Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee a seat in the course.
If accepted, the host campus will notify you by email and your enrollment status will update to “Enrolled.” CSUMB will also place a placeholder course in your schedule to track the units and support financial aid processing.
You are responsible for setting up access to the host campus’s online learning system.
Fees and Financial Aid
- You must have paid tuition or have pending financial aid at your home campus before applying
- If enrolled, CSUMB will add a placeholder course that allows the units to be counted toward financial aid
- Non-resident tuition, professional program fees, or material fees (if applicable) are billed by and paid directly to the host campus
Prerequisites and Credit Transfer
- You may need to provide proof of meeting course prerequisites (e.g., transcripts or grade reports)
- Once you complete the course, your grade is automatically transferred to CSUMB
- The placeholder course remains on your record, and the credit is listed as transfer credit
- If you need to order official transcripts later, you will need to request them from both your home and host campuses
Additional Notes

- International students may not be eligible; contact CSUMB to confirm
- Graduate students should confirm eligibility and credit transfer with their academic department
- Enrollment may be limited to specific campuses or courses with consortium agreements
