Holds are placed on your account for a variety of reasons, including unpaid balances, missing documents, or academic requirements.

Check and Resolve Your Holds

To avoid delays, check your account at least two weeks before your registration date.

All holds must be cleared before you can register.

Your enrollment appointment is the earliest date and time you can register for classes. These appointments are assigned based on your student level and the number of units you've completed, with those closer to graduation receiving earlier access. Appointments typically become visible in your OASIS Student Center when the course schedule is published, usually in March for Fall registration and October for Spring registration. New students will be notified when their appointment is available to view.

Registration follows a structured order, beginning with priority groups at each class level, then continuing with seniors, second baccalaureate students, graduate and credential students, juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Each group is ranked by completed units, with students who have the highest number registering first. Visit your OASIS Student Center to find your exact registration window.

Priority registration gives certain student groups earlier access to enroll in classes ahead of others in the same class level. This can make it easier to secure high-demand courses and build a balanced schedule. If, for example, all senior students register on a Monday, those with priority status would receive the earliest time slots that day. Students granted priority are strongly encouraged to register during their assigned window for the best chance of enrolling in preferred classes.

Qualifying groups include:

  • Foster youth or former foster youth (up to age 24)
  • Veterans and active-duty military members with qualifying discharge statuses
  • Student parents with dependents under 18 (must update dependent information in OASIS by the published deadline each term)
  • Students registered with the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC)
  • Participants in the Finish in Four or Through in Two programs
  • NCAA student-athletes
  • Students in approved, university-sanctioned programs that significantly benefit the campus (requires Category 7 documentation and departmental approval)

Some classes may be full when you attempt to register. If a class is closed, you have the option to choose an alternate course or, if available, add yourself to the waitlist through OASIS. If a seat becomes available and you meet all enrollment conditions, you will be automatically enrolled and notified through your CSUMB email.

Waitlist Guidelines

Students may waitlist up to eight units per term and cannot be registered and waitlisted for different sections of the same course. Before being enrolled from a waitlist, all time conflicts and registration holds must be resolved. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their schedule in OASIS and remove themselves from any waitlisted courses they no longer intend to take. Being on a waitlist does not guarantee enrollment, so students should plan their schedules accordingly.

Some courses at CSUMB require a permission number, also known as an add code, to enroll. These codes are typically needed if a course has restricted enrollment, such as when instructor or department consent is required, or when your prerequisite grades have not yet been posted in OASIS. You may also need a permission number if you are enrolling during the add/drop period of a term with faculty approval.

Find more information on how to request a permission number.

Most students have a unit cap each semester based on their academic level, major and standing. If you need to take more units than your assigned limit, you can request approval through the Additional Unit Authorization process.

  • All other undergraduate students: Up to 18 units

To request more units:

  • Submit the Additional Unit Authorization Request form
  • Your academic advisor will review your request
  • If approved, it will be forwarded to the Office of the Registrar for processing

All requests must be submitted and approved before the end of the Add/Drop Period.

Graduate and Credential Students

  • Graduate students: 12 units
  • Credential students: 20 units

To request more units:

  • Complete the Additional Unit Authorization Form
  • Email the form to your program advisor or coordinator using your CSUMB email
