Tips for communicating with your instructor

Online learning is a challenge for both students and professors alike! Here is a list of tips to help with communication to your professors: Online learning is a challenge for both students and professors alike! Here is a list of tips to help with communication to your professors:

- Try coming early to a Zoom session or staying after class; simple questions can be answered easily in this extra time at the beginning or end of class.

- Visit the professor's office hours, or set up an appointment with them virtually. This is as close to a one-on-one conversation we can have online!

- You can send your professor a message through Canvas, iLearn, or email. Writing allows more time to formulate your thoughts, but isn't the fastest communication. Also remember that forum posts are public.

- If you have a difficult message to communicate, such as a concern about how the class is going or a special request you would like to make, you can see a writing tutor to get feedback on how your message is coming across. Sometimes it helps to get a second pair of eyes on your writing before hitting “send”!
