CAHSS Graduation Stories: Angelica Paredes, School of World Languages & Cultures

Angélica Paredes has overcome adversity in various forms throughout her life regarding access to education, and her resilience is demonstrated by her academic success, and willingness to help and educate others. She notes that while growing up in Mexico, "learning English was the most challenging task at hand, but nevertheless, she was able to accomplish it. Secondly, in Mexico, I only finished elementary school. I was not able to attend a middle school because we live in a very small village where there not existed a middle school, and my parents could not afford to move or send me to a place where there was one."

Despite these circumstances as a first generation student, Angelica is graduating CSUMB, and her Service Learning experience with Cesar Chavez Elementary school students reinforces her passion and desire to seek her teaching credential, so that she can assist and empower students as an educator.
