Center for Reading Diagnosis and Instruction

The Reading Center focuses on reading assessment, instruction, research, and professional development related to reading and literacy development. A valuable training site for pre-service students enrolled in programs in the Department of Education and Leadership, the Reading Center provides service to the local community through a range of diagnostic and tutorial services related to reading. It also partners with schools and community-based organizations to support ongoing literacy efforts.

Practicum and Internship Experiences

Speech-language pathology students complete five clinical placements in both school and medical settings. They’ll gain practical experience with the full scope of practice — and with clients of all ages.

School psychology graduate students complete a 450-hour practicum in their second year, followed by a 1,2000-hour internship in a public school in year three.

Monterey Institute for English Learners

More than 40% of school students in Monterey County are classified as English learners. This institute focuses on preparing educators and providing continued professional development for those already working in the field.

Teacher Residencies

Teacher credential students can follow one of two pathways: co-teaching or internships. Both opportunities give them real-world classroom experiences in their chosen grade level.
