Your Graduation Journey Starts Here

Graduating from Cal State Monterey Bay is more than an academic achievement — it is a celebration of your hard work, perseverance and the journey that has prepared you for what comes next. Whether you’re earning your bachelor’s degree or completing a master’s program, this milestone reflects your commitment to learning and your readiness to make an impact beyond the classroom. As you approach graduation, we’re here to make sure you have the support, resources and guidance you need to complete your goals and move forward with confidence.

Apply for Graduation

To begin the graduation process, meet with your academic advisor to confirm when you will complete your final degree requirements. Once confirmed, submit your graduation application through OASIS. If you encounter any issues with the online process, please contact graduation@csumb.edu.

After submitting your application, it is essential to review the information you submitted. If any corrections are needed, contact the Office of the Registrar within two weeks to avoid additional fees.

Graduate students should start by meeting with their program advisor to review their academic progress and determine their final term. You will also need to ensure your Advancement to Candidacy is on file before the term for which you are applying to graduate. Submit your application through OASIS. What Happens After You Apply

Once your application is submitted, a Graduation Counselor will review your academic record and update your Academic Requirements Report in OASIS. You will receive an email notification when this review is complete. Applying early helps speed up this process.

You are responsible for checking your Academic Requirements Report. Any incomplete areas must be resolved before your degree can be awarded. If you need to complete an alternate course, work with your advisor to submit a course substitution request in OASIS. Substitution requests can take up to two weeks to process.

If your graduation term needs to change, submit a new application in OASIS and pay the $20 graduation date change fee.

Confirming Degree Completion

After the end of your graduation term, a final review of your academic record will take place. All coursework must be completed by the end of the term’s assessment period. If any coursework is completed after this time, your graduation will be moved to a future term, and a new application will be required.

If your record confirms completion of all requirements, your degree will be awarded. If not, you will receive a notification with next steps. Contact your Graduation Counselor with any questions after receiving this notice.

Diplomas

Your diploma will reflect your degree, major, and honors. Concentrations and minors appear only on your official transcript. The conferral date is the last day of the academic term, not the day of the Commencement ceremony.

Diplomas are mailed to the permanent address on file in OASIS. To ensure timely delivery, verify your address before the end of the assessment period. Address changes submitted after the end of the assessment period may result in fees for a replacement.

Diplomas are typically mailed within four months after the end of each term. If you have not received yours within six months, contact the graduation team at the Office of the Registrar. Courtesy replacements are available for diplomas not received due to mailing or printing errors, but incorrect name or address updates will require a paid duplicate order. Email graduation@csumb.edu for assistance.

Diploma Name

Your diploma name will appear exactly as entered, so if you don’t make any updates by the deadline, your diploma will default to your primary (legal) name on file with the university. If you plan to use a chosen name, consider how it may be interpreted in legal, professional or official contexts, as it could lead to complications in certain situations.

Order a Duplicate Diploma

If you need additional copies of your diploma, you can request a duplicate for $50 per copy. Be sure to have your nine-digit student ID number ready. Processing typically takes three to four weeks. You will receive a confirmation when your order is complete. For help, email graduation@csumb.edu .

Certified Electronic Diplomas

Starting with Spring 2020 graduates, Cal State Monterey Bay offers Certified Electronic Diplomas and Certificates (CeDiploma). These official, secure, and verifiable digital documents include a unique CeDiD (Certified Electronic Document Identifier), allowing you to share your credential with employers, licensing agencies and others, instantly.

You will receive an email with download instructions when your CeDiploma is available. If needed, you can request a new link from CeCredential Trust. For more information, visit cecredentialtrust.com.

A fee of $17.95 will apply.

Commencement

Commencement is a joyful celebration of your hard work and success. However, participating in the ceremony is not the same as graduating. Your degree is awarded only after all requirements are met and verified by the Registrar’s office.

To learn more about the ceremony, visit the Commencement webpage.

Additionally, be sure to check out the Graduate Checklist to know how long you will have access to your CSUMB email and any other files you have stored under your account.
