Our professors have been honored with both national and state level awards for their teaching and research. They have delivered keynote addresses at national conferences, received competitive grants from organizations such as the California Learning Lab and led funded projects through the Mathematical Association of America, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health.
Faculty research and mentorship have resulted in undergraduate co-authored publications and presentations at national meetings, advancing both student learning and the broader discipline.
Beyond awards and recognition, our faculty and staff are dedicated mentors. They integrate research, service learning, and innovative teaching practices into every program, ensuring students gain hands-on experience, professional preparation and personal support.
The professors did their best to ensure everyone could explore different career paths, from pure math to education. By my third year, I had developed a connection with most of the professors that would be nearly impossible in larger departments. In addition, the department's small size gave me more opportunities to work directly with professors in mathematical research and gave direct engagement that helped affirm my love of math.

Dr. Alison Lynch was honored by the Mathematical Association of America, the premier professional organization for mathematics educators in higher education, with the 2023 Henry L. Alder Award. The Award acknowledges her commitment to innovation and inclusion in mathematics education at the university level, including her innovative work in rethinking how Calculus is taught.

Dr. Steven Kim won the 2023 CSUMB Outstanding Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) Faculty Award in part due to his mentorship of undergraduate researchers, which includes 14 publications co-authored with 22 undergraduates. Professor Kim also oversaw a special Research Experience for Undergraduates in the summer of 2023 funded by the Mathematical Association of America.

Dr. Judith Canner won the CSU Wang Family Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in 2021 and the Faculty Innovation and Leadership Award in 2018, for her exceptional leadership in building the statistics and data science program, establishing campus-wide assessment of quantitative reasoning, and redesigning the general education mathematics and statistics courses to support student success.

In 2024, Dr. Jennifer Clinkenbeard served as a statistical consultant on a physician wellness initiative through the New York Zen Center. Physicians who participated in the program demonstrated decreased measures of burnout, emotional exhaustion, and increased levels of personal accomplishment. She and her coauthors published a paper about this initiative. The paper won a 2024 Common Spirit Vision Award in the category of Academic Excellence.
