Accessible Technology Initiative
Commitment to ensuring all electronic and information technology is accessible to students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike.
Advancing Equity Through Accessible Technology
Cal State Monterey Bay’s Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) promotes a culture of accessibility throughout campus. As part of the California State University systemwide initiative launched in 2006, ATI is guided by Executive Order 1111 and rooted in Cal State Monterey Bay’s vision of equity through innovation. As such, web content, instructional materials and technology procurement processes are designed to meet accessibility standards and reflect a deep commitment to inclusiveness.
Web Accessibility
Cal State Monterey Bay designs and maintains its digital presence to meet the highest accessibility standards, including full compliance with the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative and WCAG 2.0 AAA guidelines.
The university website is tested for compatibility across browsers and devices, with no known issues that require shortcuts or specialized software to access any part of the site. All content — videos, documents and web pages — is expected to be accessible.
The Web Services team supports faculty and staff in developing accessible web content and regularly reviews tools, frameworks and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance with accessibility standards.
Users who experience any barriers while using the Cal State Monterey Bay website are encouraged to report them so the university can respond and make improvements.
Instructional Materials
Accessible instructional materials are essential for student success. At Cal State Monterey Bay, accessibility is a shared responsibility supported by the Student Disability and Accessibility Center, the Center for Academic Technologies and the dedication of faculty and staff.
Cal State Monterey Bay works proactively to identify challenges, provide timely accommodations and support faculty in delivering inclusive instruction. The approach combines training, technology and collaborative workflows to ensure that all course materials, from syllabi to third-party tools, are accessible to every student. This process is continuously reviewed and updated in alignment with CSU guidance and evolving technology standards.
Procurement
Every technology product and service purchased by Cal State Monterey Bay, from classroom software to campus-wide platforms, is evaluated for accessibility. Each solution is reviewed for compliance with Section 508 and CSU policies, with input from stakeholders during the procurement planning process. The university also hosts campuswide conversations on inclusive technology practices. By staying current with national standards and best practices, Cal State Monterey Bay ensures a digital infrastructure that supports all users from the start.
