Donate to CAHSS With Monterey County Gives! November 8-December 31I'm ready to donate! Take me to MCGives!
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is excited to share the news that we've been accepted to the Monterey County Gives 2018 Campaign (MCGives!). Your support of our CAHSS Arts & Lectures Series goes even further this year, through an overall matching gift from Monterey County Gives, CAHSS will receive a percentage match of all funds raised for the Series.
We deliver a wide range of arts and lectures programming available to students and the community at large. These events include guest artists and notable speakers, as well as our renowned faculty. Funding for the CAHSS Arts & Lectures Series will allow us to commit to an annual events calendar and broaden our reach of annual events including:
- Dia de Los Muertos
- Visiting Artist Series
- Site Specific Art Exhibition
- Heritage Music Festival
- Sundance Shorts with Mike Plante
- Social Justice Colloquium
- Writers from the Edge
Speakers for these events have included Viet Than Nguyen, Zeynep Tufekci, Carrie Mae Weems, and Rafa Esparza. CAHSS delivers intellectually and creatively stimulating programming and co-created projects with the community. We are a community of educators and students and we bring guest artists and speakers to the region regularly. This project will enhance our ability to create reliable annual programming to share with the wider Monterey County community. All of this work is emergent from a college designed to be reciprocal with the community while being thought and creative leaders through our scholarly pursuits and our education of the next generation of California's leaders and engaged citizenry.
The Dia de Los Muertos ceremony and the sugar skull workshop class is important in that it has become a legacy for the Visual & Public Art Department that we share with everyone across campus and in our community. Through the class and the workshops and the building of the altar, we reminisce about family and friends who have passed on, it's a time of celebration of their lives. It's so amazing to see people from different ethnicities come together to celebrate, sharing knowledge and learning about our tradition as we come together to have a great time— Hector Dionicio "Dio" Mendoza
