Building an Accessible Web Experience

Cal State Monterey Bay is committed to creating a web experience that is accessible to everyone. Our Web Services team works to ensure all users can access and engage with university websites. This commitment reflects our values of inclusion, equity and shared access.

Accessibility Standards and Requirements

The university’s web framework meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

Under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Executive Order 1111, all content published on university-managed websites — including csumb.edu — must meet accessibility standards. This includes:

• Web pages
• Videos
• Forms
• Attached documents

Shared Responsibility

Accessibility is a shared responsibility across campus. Faculty and staff who publish content are responsible for ensuring their materials are accessible to people of all abilities.

All website contributors, and anyone creating files for the web, should review accessibility guidelines and follow best practices when developing content.

Improving Digital Accessibility

Cal State Monterey Bay continues to strengthen digital accessibility across campus. The university regularly updates its website framework to align with CSU Accessible Technology Initiative standards and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) guidelines.

Clear guidance helps content editors create accessible pages and documents. Ongoing reviews and collaboration ensure the university’s websites remain current, compliant and responsive to the needs of our community.
