Student Leadership in Service Learning Program
Empowering students to build leadership skills, support their peers and create meaningful community impact through service learning and mentorship.
Learning, Leadership and Community Impact
The Student Leadership in Service Learning (SL2) program is a core part of the Service Learning Institute at Cal State Monterey Bay. Through peer mentorship and community engagement, SL2 leaders help students connect classroom learning with meaningful service experiences in the community.
Service Learning Student Leaders support students, faculty and community partners involved in service learning courses. They help students reflect on their experiences, build connections between academic concepts and community-based work, and strengthen a shared commitment to social change.
Build Leadership Through Service
SL2 prepares students to become thoughtful leaders who care deeply about their communities. Through mentorship, training and hands-on experience, student leaders gain valuable professional and leadership skills while making a positive impact across the region.
As an SL2 leader, you can:
- Support fellow students in service learning courses
- Develop leadership and communication skills
- Receive mentorship and professional development opportunities
- Participate in training focused on social justice, leadership and community engagement
- Join a supportive community of student leaders committed to service
- Earn paid experience while working approximately 20 hours per week
Student Leaders are Changemakers
The SL2 program is designed for students who are passionate about service, community engagement and leadership development. If you want to make a difference while growing personally and professionally, SL2 offers an opportunity to turn your values into action.
Take the Next Step
If you are community-oriented, motivated to create change and interested in supporting your peers through service learning, we encourage you to explore the SL2 program.
