Monte's 5K Training Program

Join the Wellness Raft, and Exercise is Medicine on Campus for our MB FLOW training program for FREE! Kinesiology faculty Sara Powell and Lisa Leininger designed the program to help you prepare mentally and physically for our exciting annual event. The program takes place asynchronously on Canvas, allowing you to train at any time that is convenient for you. 

Monte’s 5K is Saturday, Oct. 11. The eight-week training schedule begins on Aug. 18. However, you can jump in at any time. All plans are flexible and modifiable based on your needs.

What's Included

  • An eight-week schedule with workouts and daily guidance. Three plans to choose from (walk, walk/run combo, run).
  • Weekly in-person training sessions with Exercise is Medicine on Campus Run, Walk, & Roll Club. Meet at the Otter Sports Center Parking Lot Mondays at 4pm from August 18 to October 6 (excluding Labor Day). 
  • Eight weeks of mental skills training via the FLOW program. Learn to set goals, ignite and sustain motivation, build self-confidence, love your body, reduce stress, and make this training habit last! 
  • Access to all resources on a tailor-made Canvas page.

Get Started

Train with a partner or group

Gather as many as you like and plan your workout days/times. You can also be “accountabilibuddies” with check-ins via text, email, team spreadsheets, etc. Add to the fun by naming your training team, wearing shirts or costumes on race day, and having your supporters make signs! 

FAQs

Can I start this training program a little late or train on different days than prescribed?

The eight-week training schedule begins on Aug. 18 leading up to Monte’s 5k on October 11. However, you can jump in at any time. All plans are flexible and modifiable based on your needs. 

Can I use the training and Canvas page even if I’m not able to do Monte’s 5k? 

Absolutely! The training plans and resources are available to you on the Canvas page. 

Can I train by myself or with a team? 

Either way is fine! Although Monte’s 5K does not have a team race category, training together is highly encouraged! Gather as many as you like and plan your workout days/times or be “accountabilibuddies” with check-ins via text, email, team spreadsheets, etc.
