Choosing to ride a bike is a great, active form of transport when getting around campus; as it can improve your health, save you money and help reduce environmental impacts!
CSUMB named a Bicycle Friendly University!
The League of American Bicyclists has awarded CSUMB with a Bronze rating in their Bicycle Friendly University(BFU) program. The League is a national bicycle advocacy organization which highlights communities for infrastructure and programming that supports bicycle use. CSUMB joins six other CSU's with BFU designations.

Short-term parking
Bike racks are located near most building entrances on campus. The campus utilizes a high-security rack standard to reduce theft potential and contribute to a quality bicycling experience
Bike Bunker
Located behind the Otter Cycle Center and this option provides a secure and convenient indoor storage with swipe card access and camera monitoring 24/7. Rent storage space for a semester, during breaks, or for the year. Discounted rates are available for campus community members.
Bike Fix-It Stations
There are three bike fix-it stations located across campus. These bike fix-it stations are for members of the community to use whether they need to pump up their tires or tighten a bolt. The three locations are: (1) near the bike bunker, (2) near the library entrance to the cafe, and (3) in front of Strawberry Residential Hall in North Quad.
The Otter Cycle Center is a bike shop located conveniently in the Student Center. The shop provides mechanical services at reasonable prices from a passionate student staff dedicated to improving your cycling experience. Some of their services include: rentals, repair, guided rides and more. You name it, these bike lovers do it. Visit them in the Student Center's East Lounge

Maps
The Monterey County Bike Maps will show you everything you need to find your way around Monterey County by bike. The map indicates the grade of streets so you can avoid the steepest hills. Plus, the Bike Map shows you where bike shops and local monuments are located, and the types of bikeway on each street.

Bike boulevards
CSUMB claims 3.8 miles of bike boulevards. When bicyclist ride on bike boulevards, motorists should give priority to bicycles by yielding to them and allowing them to pass safely. The roads currently identified as a bicycle boulevard include:
- Divarty from 2nd Ave to A St
- A St from Divarty to 7th Ave
- 7th Ave from A St to Inter-Garrison Rd
- Inter-Garrison Road from 7th Ave to General Jim Moore
- 5th Ave from Inter-Garrison to Divarty.

Bike Counter
You count as a bicyclist! A solar-powered bicycle counter with a digital display is located on Inter-Garrison Rd between East Campus and Main Campus. In-ground loop detectors count each bike that rides over them in the bike lanes. The display is a meant to acknowledge and encourage bicyclists, and the data is helpful to plan for future bicycle infrastructure. The technology is provided by Eco-Counter. The display shows the running calendar year total and the days total, Westbound + Eastbound.

- There are showers at the Otter Sports Center (Building 90) and the Aquatics Center (Building 100).
- Business Information and Technology (Building 506) has a shower in the first-floor restrooms.

- Facilities Management (Building 37) has a shower outside of the break room double doors.
The Emergency Ride Home Program is for commuters who use alternative transportation to get to or from work or school, but worry about being stranded if there is a family emergency or if they are asked to work late. The program offers “peace of mind” to commuters by providing cost reimbursement for a taxi or rental car utilized in a work-related emergency situation.

Complete program application
Submit your completed application to transportation staff at transportation@csumb.edu
Your application will be forwarded to TAMC staff for processing, and a confirmation email will be shared once the process is complete. Upon receiving confirmation, please notify your direct supervisor of your enrollment in the program.
Request travel reimbursement
On their next working day after an emergency, participants are expected to submit an Emergency Ride Home reimbursement request (below) along with a copy of a travel receipt to transportation@csumb.edu.
The signed form and receipt will be forwarded to the Transportation Agency of Monterey County for authorization. Within two weeks, the commuter will be reimbursed up to $60 for any authorized expense. Commuters are allowed one reimbursement per month while enrolled in the program.

What is the Emergency Ride Home Program?

Who is eligible to participate?
Commuters who live, work or go to school in Monterey County and use an alternative mode of transportation at least once a week are eligible to participate in the Emergency Ride Home program.
How do I request travel reimbursement through the program?
Should an emergency occur due to an illness, crisis or unexpected overtime required by one's employer on a day one uses an alternative mode of transportation, they may can call a taxi service for a cab, Uber or Lyft car or rent a vehicle to get home.
On their next working day, a participant must submit an Emergency Ride Home reimbursement request and copy of a travel receipt to transportation@csumb.edu. What does the program recognize as "alternative transportation"?
Forms of "alternative transportation" which qualify for the program include: bicycling, public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, walking, wheelchair use and boarding, or any combination thereof.
What uses are not permitted under the program?
Participants may not use the Emergency Ride Home program for any of the following reasons: personal errands, medical or dental appointments, business travel, job related injuries, a natural disaster, missed ride home, or other reasons that may be deemed an invalid use of the program, as determined by the program administrator.
Is this program at all associated with the university's Enterprise Rent-a-Car agreement?
No. The university's Enterprise Rent-a-Car agreement may never be utilized for personal travel, and therefore is not compatible with the Emergency Ride Home program.
Who administers the Emergency Ride Home program?
The program is administered and funded by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County. The campus has elected to participate in the program, and has designated staff in the Campus Planning & Development Department to monitor participation and assure a quality experience.
