Begin Your Journey as an Otter

New Student Convocation is Cal State Monterey Bay’s official welcome for incoming first-year and transfer students. This campus tradition marks the start of your academic journey and celebrates your place in the Otter community.

At this event, you’ll connect with fellow students, hear from campus leaders and learn about the values, history and traditions that shape the Cal State Monterey Bay experience.

Attendance is required for all new students.

New Student Convocation FAQs

Yes. New Student Convocation is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students. It is a formal welcome to CSUMB and a tradition that marks the start of your academic journey.

No. Signing up for New Student Convocation secures your registration for all activities throughout the day, including the College Mixers and the Convocation Ceremony.

Convocation will be a full day of walking and moving around campus. Students are recommended to wear comfortable layers and closed-toe shoes. Don't forget to bring your Student ID card and a reusable water bottle!

Convocation is an event designed exclusively for incoming students to celebrate with their new peers, faculty, and campus leadership.

Parents and families are warmly invited to attend the Parent & Family Reception on Tuesday, August 18!
