Ensuring Access at Cal State Monterey Bay

Cal State Monterey Bay is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment. The Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) ensures students with disabilities have equitable access to campus programs, housing, and academic experiences.

Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, navigating a temporary injury, or seeking long-term accommodations, SDAC staff work with you individually to determine appropriate academic or housing adjustments.

Students should begin making arrangements to request accommodations as early as possible. We recommend planning at least 2 months in advance of each semester, as some accommodations require longer lead times.

Students requesting accommodations MUST complete the steps outlined below.

Getting Started Steps

Apply for Services

Submitting Disability Verification (DV)

Disability verification (DV) is NOT required to apply for services. An SDAC Advisor will help you determine which verification documents are required under the CSU Policy.

If you do have DV, it can be uploaded with your application.

  • Disability Verification should:
    • Be from a licensed treating provider.
    • Explain how your disability/medical condition impacts/causes a barrier to your participation in the classroom or campus housing environments.
    • A diagnosis is not required to receive SDAC services.
  • You may submit your provider's DV form, or if you prefer, they may use our form. Contact SDAC Reception by phone at (831) 582-3672 or by email at sdac@csumb.edu.
  • To upload DV after submitting your SDAC application
    • Log in to the AIM Student Portal and use the "Additional and/or Updated Documentation" feature.

SDAC ensures the confidentiality of all disability-related documents and communication with students.

After completing your SDAC student application, move on to step two.

After you submit your application, contact the SDAC office to schedule your intake appointment.

Appointments for Classroom Accommodations:

  • Newly admitted students should schedule their intake appointment after enrolling. Ideally, 6-8 weeks before the start of the semester.
  • Continuing students should schedule the FIRST available intake appointment.

Appointments for Housing Accommodations:

  • Newly admitted and continuing students should schedule the FIRST available intake appointment.
  • Note: ALL students MUST complete the separate Student Housing application.

After scheduling your advising intake appointment, move on to step 3.

During your intake appointment, an SDAC Advisor will discuss and recommend reasonable accommodations.

The following questions can be answered during the appointment:

  • What accommodations will be provided?
  • When will the accommodations be provided?
  • Who is responsible for providing the accommodations?
  • How will the accommodations be provided?

Some accommodation requests may need more than one meeting for full consideration of needs.

For additional information regarding possible accommodations, visit the Academic and/or Housing Accommodations pages.
