Recreation Rentals

Bike Bunker

The Otter Cycle Center offers discounted bike parking in the Bike Bunker to our student off-campus bike commuters, on-campus students, and faculty and staff. The Bike Bunker is a secure and conveniently located parking facility behind the Otter Cycle Center, and it features swipe card access for added security.

Students can rent a parking space for a semester, during breaks, or for the entire year by completing an online Bike Bunker application and reviewing and completing the online membership application packet. Enrollment in the Bike Bunker is based on availability and granted on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to students. Once approved, the user will be assigned a spot and provided with swipe card access to the Bike Bunker. Card access can take up to 4 weeks.

    Parking privileges

    CSUMB students, staff, and faculty are eligible to park a bike on a first-come, first-serve basis. If capacity exists to allow university faculty or staff to use the Bike Bunker, the Otter Cycle Center may use its sole discretion, to allow faculty or staff to pay to access to the Bike Bunker.

    Bike owner responsibilities

    Although the Bike Bunker is a locked facility with swipe card access and camera monitoring, the bike owner is solely responsible for keeping their bike and accessories locked and secured when parked in the Bike Bunker. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bikes or accessories. In addition, the Bike Bunker is not a climate-controlled facility. As such, bikes are exposed to humidity and moisture that could result in rust to bikes, bike components, and bike accessories. All bikes and accessories parked in the Bike Bunker shall be parked at the bike owner's sole risk.

    The user agrees to leave the room in the same condition as it was found. The bike room is not to be used for any other use outside of parking your own bike.

Bike Rental

The Otter Cycle Center offers CSUMB Students bike rentals at student rates. You can rent for a full academic year (Fall & Spring semester), or just a single day, and anything in between.

Rentals will include the following:

  • Bike
  • Helmet
  • U-lock

  • Short Term Rentals

    Short term rentals are rental periods can be 1 day or more. Typically folks will rent for a day to do a ride with friends, or a weekend to take advantage of the local trails. Performance bikes can be rented for up to 7 days, non-performance bike have no limit on rental period.

    Long term rentals are limited to non-performance bikes. Long term rentals include:

    • Lock and helmet
    • Free monthly check ups - Brake, shifting, chain lube, tire pressure check
    • First 3 tube replacements are free and then $10 each after

Camping and Surfing Rentals

We have everything you need to make your own adventure: going out car camping, backpacking, or catching some waves at the beach. Rentals are only available to CSUMB students, faculty, and staff with a valid CSUMB ID. Rent for a day, a weekend, or any custom timeframe. Please fel free to contact us if you have any questions.

    The Recreation Rental Center charges late fees and damage fees. For every day that your rental equipment is late, you will be charged the "per night" rate per item. The returned equipment will be assessed and if any significant damages are discovered or if the equipment is negligently dirty, you will be contacted and charged.
