Where Campus Life Comes Together

The Otter Student Union (OSU) is your hub for campus life at Cal State Monterey Bay. Whether you're organizing an event, meeting with your club, relaxing between classes or exploring new interests, OSU provides spaces and services that help you connect, unwind and succeed.

  • Ballroom — Divisible and tech-ready for hybrid events
  • Outdoor Plaza & Main Quad — Ideal for concerts, tabling, or movie nights
  • Conference & Board Rooms — Fully furnished and A/V equipped
  • Student Lounge & Terrace — Relax with views of Monterey Bay
  • Group Study Room — Reserve at the Info Desk (CSUMB students only)
  • Nursing Room — First-come, first-served via the Info Desk
  • Meditation Room — Quiet space for reflection and prayer

Planning an event? The OSU offers a variety of reservable spaces for student organizations, campus departments and external guests. You can reserve conference rooms, the ballroom, outdoor plazas or even production space with livestreaming support. The OSU is centrally located and offers on-site event support and catering services.

Visit the Rookery and Otter Esports Lounge on the third floor of the OSU for casual or competitive gaming. These spaces are open to all CSUMB students and feature console games, table tennis, billiards and high-end gaming PCs.

The Rookery is available for drop-in use or reservations for student orgs and departments. The Otter Esports Lounge supports CSUMB’s esports teams and features Alienware PCs, HyperX peripherals and dedicated internet for optimal gameplay.

The OSU’s professional-grade audio, lighting and livestreaming services help bring your event to life. Equipment includes digital mixers, wireless microphones, projection systems, lighting trusses and high-definition cameras. OSU technicians provide support for events hosted in the Student Union or elsewhere on campus.

The OSU offers high-visibility promotional tools to help get the word out about your event, program or campaign.

A-frames can be placed outside the OSU with approval. Digital displays on all three floors of the Student Union feature student organization, department and partner announcements. Flyers may be submitted to the OSU Information Desk; however, there are no public bulletin boards.

Digital signage requests must include properly formatted slides and be submitted at least one week in advance. OSU staff approve and schedule all content to ensure alignment with university policies.

While supplies last, current CSUMB students can receive one free admission pass to the Monterey Bay Aquarium each academic year. This benefit is offered through the Student Ocean Stewards program in partnership with the Aquarium.

Passes are distributed in person at the OSU office, Room 306. You’ll need your OtterCard and student ID number to claim your pass. No reservations are required to use it at the aquarium.

CSUMB students, staff and faculty can ride Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) buses to the Monterey Bay Aquarium at no cost by swiping their OtterCard during the fall and spring semesters. The trip takes about 45 to 60 minutes from campus. Check the MST website for current routes and schedules, and be prepared for standing room during busy times.

The OSU hosts a secure Amazon Locker called “AKIL” on the second floor near the Sea Store. This service is free to use and makes it easier to receive packages safely and on time. To use the locker, select “AKIL” as your delivery address when placing orders.

You’ll receive a unique code to retrieve your package once it arrives. Be sure to pick up items within three days to avoid returns
