Upcoming changes to Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus routes

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will activate its "Better Bus Network" which will cause major changes to the MST transit network.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will activate its "Better Bus Network" which will cause major changes to the MST transit network. Bus routes serving CSUMB via the 4th Avenue / Alumni and Visitor's Center will be affected. The following changes will take place beginning Dec. 10:

  • MST Line 16 (CSUMB to Marina Transit Exchange) will be eliminated.
  • MST Line 18 will be re-routed; the new route will include service from Marina Transit Exchange to Sand City Station via CSUMB. The new route will now serve the Dunes Shopping Center,  Veterans Administration (VA) DoD Outpatient Clinic on 1st Avenue, and Walmart in Marina every hour*. Line 18 will no longer serve Monterey Peninsula College or Downtown Monterey.
  • A NEW MST Line 17 will be implemented; the new route will include service from Marina Transit Exchange to Sand City Station via CSUMB. The new route will serve Promontory, Imjin Parkway, and Walmart in Marina every hour*.
  • MST Line 25 (CSUMB to Salinas) will continue to run through until Dec. 17.
  • MST Line 61 will be re-routed; the new route will serve Marina Transit Exchange, the VA clinic on 1st Avenue, and Salinas Transit Center via East Garrison on an infrequent basis (approximately every 2 hours).

*Lines 17/18 will serve the 4th Avenue / Alumni and Visitor's Center transit station every hour on a clockface schedule. This means that routes will alternate between Line 17 and Line 18 every half hour to serve Marina Transit Exchange and Sand City.

Transit riders traveling to/from Downtown Monterey or the Aquarium will now be required to transfer at Sand City Station. Transit riders can reach Downtown Monterey or the Aquarium by transferring to either the JAZZ A/B Lines serving Sand City every 15 minutes or Line 20 serving Sand City every 30 minutes. MST will have timed transfers now, meaning that buses will be scheduled to arrive within 5 minutes of each other to allow for easy transfers.

To request a transfer on any MST bus line, ask the driver for a transfer upon boarding. CSUMB affiliates (students, staff, or faculty) may board any MST bus line for free during regular academic terms (Fall and Spring) by swiping their Otter ID at the farebox.

The extent of these changes is not limited to the lines listed above. More information on these network changes can be found at MST’s Better Bus Network page.
