Dear faculty and staff,
As we begin 2023 we continue to look at ways to enhance services for students and create more efficient processes on campus.
2023 SDR Director, department name expansion, and staff augmentation
We are pleased to announce that we will be renaming Student Disability Resources to the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) to better reflect the services we provide.
We have also hired a new director who joined us on January 9. Terilynn Bench Harris joins CSUMB with 20 years of disability management experience. She ensured accommodations for students with disabilities at University of California, Santa Cruz, and served as an Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator at Sonoma State University and CSU Maritime Academy. Terilynn has most recently served as Vice President of Global Accommodations Program Leader at Wells Fargo, providing expertise and strategic direction in the development of accommodations management programming that ensured compliance with global regulatory requirements. The department will also be staffed with two recent new positions including an accessible media and ASL accommodations coordinator and an additional SDR advisor position.
University Personnel Transitions to Human Resources
We have also renamed University Personnel to Human Resources as of January 16. This name change is a better reflection of our focus on the strategic recruitment and retention of quality faculty and staff. The newly named department will remain within Administration and Finance.
AVP Natalie King Retiring
AVP for Human Resources Natalie King is retiring from CSUMB as of Feb. 1. Natalie has been with the university since 2015 and has been integral in supporting the university’s human resources and academic personnel needs. She provided valuable input into strategic campus initiatives as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Extended Cabinet. Before joining, CSUMB she also served as an AVP for Faculty Affairs at San José State University, giving her nearly a dozen years of service to the CSU. We thank Natalie for her years of service to the university and wish her the best in her retirement.
When she departs, Cheree Carvalho will serve as interim AVP for Human Resources while a search is conducted to fill the position permanently. Cheree has served as the senior director of Talent Acquisition and Workforce Administration in the department, overseeing the administration and delivery of recruitment and workforce planning for staff and management positions, benefits program services, as well as classification, and compensation activities for the campus. Before joining CSUMB, she supported human resources at San Francisco State University and San José State University.
