After a two-year successful film festival run, a CSUMB assistant professor’s award-winning short animated film, “fulcrum,” can now be viewed online and is featured on Short of the Week, an online platform that highlights outstanding films.
The 8-minute experimental film by Timothy David Orme, an assistant professor in Cinematic Arts and Technology, features sound design by Lanier Sammons, associate professor in Music and Performing Arts. A CSUMB Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities award helped them complete the film.
Short of the Week co-founder Jason Sondhi described the film as “expansive in meaning, modest, meditative, yet suffused with wonder.” It won a prestigious Jury Award at the 2022 Thomas Edison Film Festival. It also won awards at numerous other festivals, including Best Animation at the Dam Film Festival, the Arizona International Film Festival and Liverpool Underground.
"This film was around five years from initial idea to finally showing at its first film festival. I always hoped people would find it intriguing,” Orme said.
“Ultimately, I hope it’s a piece people experience and find someplace to rest in. I hope people can experience that space between awake and dreams, and a journey that ends not in defeating some monster but in a connectedness with all things, or maybe even just all aspects of one’s self.”
Watch the film on Vimeo or on Short of the Week.
