Founding faculty member Brian Simmons establishes scholarship award

The Brian Simmons Scholarship Award in Social Policy will honor the author of the best-written paper on social policy.

CSU Monterey Bay Professor Emeritus Brian Simmons has established a $52,000 endowment fund that will provide an ongoing annual scholarship award to support students in the Masters in Social Work program.

Simmons is one of the founding faculty members of CSUMB. He served as dean of the College of Professional Studies. While in that role, he created the MSW program. He retired earlier this year.

The Brian Simmons Scholarship Award in Social Policy will honor the author of the best-written paper on social policy submitted as part of an MSW culminating research project with a $2,000 award.

In order to have the award given as soon as possible, $2,000 of the gift will be used to establish a current-use scholarship award for Fall 2024. The remaining $50,000 will be used for the ongoing endowment.

CSUMB’s Financial Aid Office will manage the annual scholarship award application and selection process. For application information click here.
