News, Announcements, and Publications

Have news you think we should cover? Let us know — or share your already-written or published story for promotion.

Stationery and Business Cards

CSUMB has partnered with Casey Printing in King City to provide you with stationery and business cards that follow the university's graphic identity.

Promotional Items

CSUMB has partnered with Geisler in Marina as our preferred provider for all promotional items, which helps us to keep university funds in our local community and economy. Geisler has all of our colors, sub-branded logos, and other design elements ready for quick production of any promotional item, including shirts, pens, folios, and more.

Internal Communications

The primary method of communication to employees and students is through their official university email. This includes both one-to-one and mass messages important to all faculty and staff. Official messages have a standard format recognizable to employees and will never ask you to enter personal information on a website other than csumb.edu.

Emergency messages from the university will arrive via OtterAlerts, then our emergency webpage, and X.

Employees can submit a request to have a message, event, or news article placed on the faculty, staff, and student dashboards.

Dashboard messages have specific requirements to be included:

  • The message must be action-oriented. For example, you may submit a request that calls for employees to fill out a necessary form. Messages that are just announcements with no action required will not be considered.
  • The message must not exceed the maximum character limit.
  • Headline: 45 characters max
  • Description: 40-94 characters with spaces (two lines of text max)
  • Call to Action: 30 characters max

Submit dashboard message request

Employees can submit a request to have University Communications a very short, linked banner message to an important action item or announcement.

Dashboard banners have specific requirements:

  • The banner must have a link. For example, you may link to a webpage or form with more information.
  • The banner must be short. The full message must be five words long at most.
  • The banner must have an image. The image must be brand-consistent and approved by University Communications. If you don't have an image, University Communications can choose one for you.

CSUMB has an efficient system for distributing information to employees. Based on a tiered approach for action items and relevant information, the Employee Communications Working Group, in consultation with relevant Cabinet members, determine the channel and frequency of delivery. We welcome all submissions to Inside CSUMB, the Dashboard, and the 25 Live events calendar. Events are managed by University Affairs, Ceremonies and Events.

Faculty and staff dashboards

Employees are welcome to request that events, news and announcements be featured on the faculty or staff dashboards. Four items can appear at a time under the Messages heading on the right side managed by Human Resources and the Office of the Provost. Six items can be displayed under the News column on the left side, managed by University Communications and the Office of the President.

Inside CSUMB employee news email

Employees are welcome to submit content to Inside CSUMB, the official employee bi-weekly news and events email. It publishes every other Thursday except university holidays and other times as deemed necessary by the editorial board, consisting of representatives from the Office of the President, Academic Affairs and Human Resources. Please submit your information and events as early as possible. The deadline is 5 p.m. the Thursday before publication.

Additional Resources

We’re a proud member of the California State University system, and while CSUMB maintains its own unique brand identity, we also work to ensure it aligns with the overarching mission of CSU’s branding identity.

Official name badges are available to all employees who appear in the directory.

Geisler is currently providing our name badges. To order a name badge, send an email to Miranda and Jonathan at Geisler with the employee's name(s), title(s), department(s), and the quantity you need. Please specify the total quantity if you are ordering single name badges for a group. If you are ordering multiple badges per person, be sure to specify the individual quantity as well. Geisler will reply with a quote, a proof, and a turnaround time.

Style

The badge uses the official blue and CSUMB logo.
You can choose from two-line badges, which include your first and last name followed by your department, or three-line badges, which also include your title.

Your first name, last name, title, and department are pulled from our HR CMS. If there is any problem with the content, contact Human Resources.

Tablecloths are a great visual reminder of the CSUMB brand identity and overall university spirit, whether externally at a fair or trade show, or internally at a campus event.

Please consider the university sustainability goals and only order new tablecloths when they are needed.

You can order tablecloths from Geisler’s web store.

Choose between the two styles, loose fit drape or strechy (for outdoor use). Be sure to note whether you want a standard university logo or a sub-branded logo. (Note: Geisler has files for all approved sub-branded logos, you do not need to provide artwork.) The tablecloths use reverse color logos (meaning that the cloth is Monterey Bay blue, with the logo in white and light blue).

Geisler will reply with a quote, a proof, and a turnaround time.

Photography

Strong photography helps us show off the Otter Raft spirit from all angles. Our imagery features engaged individuals and/or dynamic movement with a light and natural feel. Our ultimate goal is to show how our students, faculty, and staff are actively achieving academic and career goals.

University Communications provides a valuable resource to the campus — a comprehensive brand image library hosted within PhotoShelter, our digital photo management system. These are high-quality, curated photos following our brand style for use by staff and faculty.

Request download access by submitting a request form. Once your request is approved, you will receive an email with instructions.

Participants in university-related events are encouraged to sign photo release forms for university-use photography. Posting photo release signs before an event starts is also highly encouraged to ensure attendees are aware before they participate in the event.
