SAS Academic Specialization in Agribusiness Supply Chain Analytics
Overview
Students in the B.S., Agribusiness Supply Chain Management (ASCM) program at Cal State Monterey Bay can earn a SAS Academic Specialization digital badge in Agribusiness Supply Chain Analytics—an employer-visible credential issued through SAS’s digital badging platform (Credly). The specialization is embedded into required ASCM coursework so students build job-ready analytics skills while completing their degree.
Why does this matter for jobs and internships?
Employers increasingly expect graduates to show applied analytics capability, not just conceptual understanding. This SAS specialization helps students stand out by validating hands-on experience with industry tools and real datasets—skills that translate across industries.
Career paths supported by this credential
- Supply Chain Analyst
- Operations Analyst
- Logistics / Transportation Planner
- Procurement & Sourcing Analyst
- ERP / Analytics Coordinator
While the specialization emphasizes agribusiness and perishable/cold-chain supply chains, the analytics skill set is transferable to manufacturing, retail, healthcare, biotechnology, and technology.
Employer visibility (SAS Certification & Skills Directory)
Students who claim a SAS digital badge are listed in the SAS Certification & Skills Directory, which helps employers find badge earners. New badge earners are automatically added and can choose to opt in to employer outreach for job opportunities.
Employers can verify the details in the directory at https://www.credly.com/organizations/sas/directory
What is the SAS Agribusiness Supply Chain Analytics specialization?
This SAS Academic Specialization recognizes students who demonstrate applied proficiency using SAS software to analyze real-world supply chain and logistics data. In the ASCM context, students work with authentic datasets and complete applied assignments and a capstone-style project to demonstrate analytics competency relevant to supply chain decision-making.
How students qualify (AGBS course pathway)
To qualify, students must successfully complete:
- AGBS 435 – Supply Chain Management
- AGBS 437 – Applied Logistics
These courses include SAS-based assignments and a project component that develop and assess applied analytics skills.
Extra credit (badge claiming incentive)
Students who claim their SAS digital badge after completing course requirements are eligible for extra credit (details provided in Canvas). This incentive is designed to encourage professional engagement and ensure students actually claim and display the credential.
What a SAS digital badge is (and why it’s different)
A SAS digital badge is more than a graphic—it is a dynamic credential backed by metadata that helps employers see the specific skills demonstrated. Badges can be attached to a website, email signature, or professional social network such as LinkedIn, and employers can view and verify the badge.
How to claim the badge (student steps)
- Click the Digital Badge Claim Link provided to eligible students by the instructor.
- Complete the form (the flyer notes it takes one minute) and allows SAS to share your name and email with Credly so they can issue your badge.
- Select “Yes” to accept the badge.
- Watch for an email from Credly within 24 hours (check spam).
Credly also provides a Help Center with step-by-step instructions for claiming and sharing badges.
“This specialization ensures our students don’t just learn analytics conceptually—they apply it to real supply chain problems using the same tools employers expect. The SAS badge gives our graduates a credible, visible signal of job-ready analytics skills.”
