This innovative lab is dedicated to promoting education, research, and business practices that integrate profitability with ethical, equitable, and sustainable values.

A Vision for Responsible Business

The RBIL champions the principles of Responsible Business, a management philosophy that emphasizes mutual value creation by balancing financial success with the well-being of employees, communities, and the environment. The lab advocates for the Quintuple Bottom Line (QBL) framework, prioritizing People, Planet, Profit, Ethics, and Equity to guide organizations toward long-term, sustainable success.

Purpose and Mission

The purpose of the RBIL is to orchestrate the transformation toward stakeholder capitalism. Its mission includes supporting faculty research in mutual value creation and responsible business practices, as well as hosting quarterly faculty research salons to encourage collaboration and idea exchange. The Lab will also seek to foster interdisciplinary collaboration to address societal and environmental challenges by engaging in a variety of activities, including –

    • Educating students and the public about responsible business principles and practices.
    • Producing lectures, seminars, and symposia to cultivate dialogue on responsible business practices.
    • Developing partnerships with organizations to promote ethical business practices.

Vision - Looking Ahead

Over the next three years, the RBIL aims to become a center of excellence for responsible business education, research, and industry engagement. By facilitating collaboration between academia, students, and industry professionals, the lab seeks to drive meaningful change in business practices locally and globally.

Leadership

Executive Champion Kelly O'Brien, MBA, ALM, PDipGB, a lecturer and Executive-In-Residence at the College of Business, leads the lab for the RBIL. With extensive experience as an entrepreneur, software developer, and business advisor, O'Brien is committed to guiding the RBIL in shaping the future of responsible business.
