Dr. Heiko Wieland Promoted to Full Professor at CSUMB

Dr. Wieland joined CSUMB’s College of Business in 2014 and earned tenure in 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Wieland gained extensive experience in senior-level sales and marketing roles with high-tech companies such as Deutsche Telekom AG and Infineon Technologies.
Dr. Wieland is an accomplished researcher with numerous publications in top-tier academic journals, including the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Industrial Marketing Management. In 2018, he received the prestigious Shelby D. Hunt/Harold H. Maynard Award from the American Marketing Association (AMA) for his significant contribution to marketing theory. He has also earned Best Paper awards at the National Conference in Sales Management in both 2016 and 2023. Most recently, in May 2024, the CSUMB Academic Senate recognized Dr. Wieland’s sustained research contribution by honoring him with the Outstanding Research and Creative Activity Award.
In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Wieland serves as the Marketing Faculty Lead in the College of Business. He has been actively involved in shaping the college’s direction, serving multiple terms on the Strategic Planning and Accreditation Committee (SPAC) and the Committee on Curriculum and Assurance of Learning (C2AoL). Furthermore, his service extends beyond the college, as he has been a member of the academic senate and senate-associated committees for many years. Dr. Wieland also actively consults for multiple companies, leveraging his expertise in marketing and sales strategies, ensuring relevance in the classroom, and helping to connect students with high-tech job opportunities.
Throughout his tenure at CSUMB, Dr. Wieland has taught in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Currently, he teaches Professional Selling and Sales Management (BUS 422) and Principles of Marketing (BUS 306).
