CSUMB Students of 'Applied Logistics' visit Floricultura for Class Tour

Students of BUS 437 visited Floricultura in Salinas, CA, where Mr. Don Howell, the manager for Floricultura, explained the nuances of orchids, demand from customers, day-to-day operations, and managing inventory year-round for all of its customers. Floricultura is one of the largest suppliers of orchids in the United States, with a high level of automation controlling temperature, humidity, and lights in the greenhouse to maintain a quality stock of orchids.

Students learned about perishable supply chain logistics, managing orders, and the intricacies of maintaining a continuous supply of seedlings while meeting demand from its customers. Students toured the working/receiving area, growing area, and flowering/spiking area of the greenhouse. We appreciate Mr. Howell for taking the time to share his expertise and for helping students learn about the operations of Floricultura.
