2019 Monterey Bay Sustainable Hospitality Summit

January 11th, 2019 – Building on the overwhelming success of the Sustainable Hospitality Symposium in 2017 and in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Ecotourism Region (MBETR) initiative, the CSUMB Sustainable Hospitality Management Program held the 2nd Monterey Bay Sustainable Hospitality Summit at the Portola Hotel and Spa on January 11th, 2019. Speakers included Mayor of Dubrovnik, Croatia, Mato Frankovic; Martha Honey, Ph. D., Founder and Executive Director for the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST); and Denise Naguib, Vice President, Sustainability and Supplier Diversity for Marriott International among many other public officials and industry leaders. The goals of the 2019 Summit were to:

To inspire the community in establishing leadership in sustainable hospitality, eco-tourism, eco-recreation, and wellness,
To provide an understanding of the return on investment of sustainable practices,
To acknowledge impending state regulations and provide tools for compliance,
To establish a regional baseline of sustainable practices currently in place,
To determine sustainable actions to pursue.

The goal is to shape the future of the Monterey Bay region as the leading sustainable hospitality, eco-tourism, eco-recreation and wellness region in the country.
