Located in the world-class travel destination of Monterey County, the program will put you at the forefront of stunning coastlines, world-class attractions, and elite resort destinations. This setting serves as a perfect living laboratory where students can apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, enriching their educational experience.
The program’s Sustainability Spotlight Series leverages the coastal environment of Monterey County to enrich your understanding of sustainable practices in hospitality and tourism. One notable field experience involves partnering with Monterey Bay Ecotours, a local women-owned business. During this experience, you’ll embark on an educational journey aboard the El Cat, an innovative electric catamaran designed and built in Moss Landing. This immersive experience not only highlights the ecological significance of coastal wetlands but also demonstrates sustainable tourism practices that prioritize conservation and environmental stewardship.
The program integrates service learning initiatives that are integral to the development of students in a Tourism and Hospitality Management program. These hands-on experiences enhance practical skills and foster a sense of social responsibility and community engagement.
Some of these experiences include beach cleaning in the Monterey Bay area, volunteering at nonprofit fundraising dinners, participating in sustainable tourism projects and activities, assisting with local food banks and shelters, and supporting local tourism initiatives.
