The Secondary Education Program, Single Subject Teaching Credential offers an exceptional path for California secondary school teachers looking to expand their professional opportunities through preparation in equitable, socially-responsible, evidence-based teaching practices. Our coursework and clinical practice experiences prepare secondary teachers who earn their California teaching credential with English Learner Authorization to be transformative educators who positively impact schools and communities.

The program integrates an array of distinctive strengths – including a focus on equitable, socially-responsible, evidence-based practices – that will provide you with the comprehensive preparation to obtain the California Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential with English Learner Authorization.

Our emphasis on evidence-based literacy instructional practices will empower you as a teacher to increase engagement, foster improved overall academic performance, and enhance your students’ social-emotional development.

Our implementation of classroom behavior support strategies will prepare you to improve classroom communication and experiences through positive behaviors in response to challenging situations.

Our faculty mentorship and hands-on learning will take you out into real-world clinical teaching placements in local elementary schools across the Tri-County region, including Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey throughout your experience in the program.
