A Lifetime of Value

Nursing, B.S.

The BSN program will advance your knowledge and training and prepare you for a more substantial nursing career through a deeper understanding and more extensive hands-on learning in areas like community health, evidence-based practice, health policy, and leadership.

Educational Objectives

Our deep sense of community will place you in a learning environment that’s highly supportive, with faculty mentors and fellow students who will push you, inspire you, and invest themselves in your academic success.

Our emphasis on professionalism will instill in you the kind of professional skills and perspectives that will set you apart in the eyes of employers and enable you to hit the ground running immediately upon graduation.

Our 90-hour internship will be a transformative experience for you as you develop your hands-on skills at sites throughout the region, including schools, healthcare systems, hospice and home-health agencies, nonprofit organizations, and public health departments, among others.

Our cumulative capstone project will provide you with an exciting outlet to present the knowledge and skills you’ve learned, as well as make you eligible to apply for the Public Health Nurse (PHN) certificate in the state of California.

Through the program’s Community Health Nursing experience you’ll get out into the community working with underserved and disadvantaged populations. Examples of what some of our students have done include establishing a local community college as a blue zone site, teaching diabetes care, adding exercise prescriptions to campus health center visits, and providing Narcan training.

Faculty & Staff

Our nursing faculty invest themselves entirely in the success of their students, individually mentoring them, including them on meaningful research projects, and engaging them in service-learning opportunities.

The Community Foundation for Monterey County has dispensed more than $800,000 to support students in CSUMB’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program over the past six years. The funds were donated by the Gambord family. A lunchtime reception at the Otter Student Union on Friday, May 12, honored the Gambords and some of the 66 nursing students who have benefited from the scholarships they have made possible.
