Ideal for students interested in Hispanic cultures but who haven’t yet developed the skills for more language-intensive programs, the Hispanic Cultures & History minor will deepen your understanding and preparation for a wide range of career fields in today’s multicultural communities.

The program will equip you with the cultural and historical knowledge of Hispanic populations in a way that will strengthen and expand your career opportunities, particularly in fields like human communication, social and behavioral sciences, the arts, liberal studies, business, and health and human services.

As a student in the minor you’ll gain the depth of knowledge and skills that will better prepare you for any number of professions, with many graduates of the program moving on to careers in social services, criminal justice, education, business, international entrepreneurship, government, community service, and advocacy.

While the minor offers the knowledge and skills that will complement virtually any major, it’s particularly well-suited for those studying human communication, social and behavioral sciences, the arts, liberal studies, business, and health and human services.

 

Educational Objectives

Our emphasis cultural knowledge will prepare you to provide comparative descriptions and basic analyses of the peoples, history, and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.

Our current, relevant curriculum will engage you in the learning of customs, practices, products, and perspectives that will uniquely prepare you for effective cross-cultural communication.

Our integration of historical perspectives will equip you with the essential theoretical foundation of the diverse peoples and histories of Spanish-speaking communities over a significant time period.
