Health and Wellness classroom

The Health and Wellness minor will expand your academic and professional pathways by strengthening your knowledge and hands-on skills in the fundamental principles common to the field of personal health and well being, including nutrition, fitness, and stress management.

Empowering You to Excel in Your Chosen Profession

The minor will immerse you in coursework and hands-on learning activities that will develop and sharpen your understanding of the various dimensions of health and wellness, diversity and multiculturism, social identity, and community health that can be applied to a broad spectrum of related professions.

The minor offers excellent preparation for careers working in expanded range of professional settings and roles, some of which include:

The minor will immerse you in the knowledge, practices, and perspectives related to health and wellness, while also positioning you to strengthen your collaborative skills, leadership abilities, and appreciation for diversity, multiculturalism, and social responsibility.

 

Educational Objectives

Our Exercise is Medicine On Campus program will inspire a distinctive level of preparation as you gain hands-on experience working with programs and real-world clients on the CSUMB campus as part of the Global Health Initiative.

Our Exercise Physiology Laboratory will enable you to develop essential skills for health and fitness assessment of diseased, normal, and athletic populations, as well as focus your studies on content necessary for nationally recognized certification exams administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Our Strength & Conditioning Laboratory will deliver knowledge of the appropriate technique in strength and conditioning as it relates to basic performance, assessment, and program developing, with content that aligns with certification exams administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Our extracurricular opportunities like the Kinesiology Student Club and involvement with CSUMB’s Division II intercollegiate athletic teams will offer you exciting ways to deepen your experience and skills, while also creating lasting memories and friendships.

From classes in disc golf, kayaking, backpacking, rock climbing, and adventure sports; to run, walk, and roll programs on coastal trails; to mountain biking on the world class terrain of Fort Ord, students in the program find countless ways to take advantage of our unique coastal location. We also work with local high school mountain biking teams on both physical and mental preparation for optimal performance.

Our faculty take pride in serving as mentors and advisors to their students, and regularly involve them in their research activities that include data collection, analysis, running interventions, presenting at conferences, and publishing in scientific journals.
