Educational Objectives

Our collaborative, co-teaching approach will provide you with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary learning experience with faculty from the Department of Health, Human Services & Public Policy as well as the Department of Environmental Studies

Our emphasis on active, hands-on learning will position you to apply what you’ve learned in real-world professional settings that could include community organizations like the City of Marina, the Big Sur Land Trust, and MEarth, among others.

Our dedicated faculty are practitioners in the health and human services sector, which means your courses will incorporate the most relevant and current knowledge and issues affecting the health of communities throughout our region.

Our focus on equity, social justice, and collaborative leadership will set you apart from others in the environmental health sector with heightened skill sets in issues of environmental justice, resource equity, environmental protection, community engagement, and advocacy.

As a student in the program you’ll take advantage of CSUMB’s distinctive location by discussing local issues related to environmental health, including coastal issues related to conservation, access to water, and agriculture in coastal areas.

The program will strengthen your sense of community and giving back through projects with local nonprofits working on local environmental issues, as well as courses that integrate social and ecological justice frameworks, service and social responsibility, community and social justice, multicultural community building, and civic engagement.
