The program will offer you an immersive experience in which you’ll hone your critical thinking and communication skills, gain competence in the key theories and practice of community health, foster important values and professional ethics, and develop a professional identity that is collaborative and interprofessional.

Educational Objectives

Our innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum will put your knowledge and skills at the forefront of collaborative health and human services, preparing you to better serve individuals, families, and communities in your region.

Our 240-hour internship at a local agency will put you into real, meaningful professional settings where you’ll address real community health issues and develop the kind of relationships that often lead to full-time offers after graduation.

Our program concentrations in social work, public health, and public administration and nonprofit management, as well as an interdisciplinary concentration, will allow you to customize your experience and tailor your studies around your unique career goals.

Our Applied Research Capstone project and professional development focus will instill in you the necessary depth of knowledge and skills to hit the ground running in your career, as well as provide an array of valuable connections with area agencies.

Our location will position you for invigorating experiential learning opportunities with local and regional community partners that work directly and indirectly with coastal conservation efforts and disaster management in coastal areas. Through these opportunities you’ll learn about the integration of public, nonprofit actions, environmental health, and social impacts of coastal degradation.

Through the program’s year-long capstone project you’ll work to address a community/agency need, while implementing and evaluating the impact of the program on the local community. This could involve health information campaigns, educational health workshops, administrative system designs, and policy analysis, among others.
