Reporting Requirements for Employees

As an employee of Cal State Monterey Bay, you have a responsibility to help keep our campus a safe place to work and learn.

Overview of Responsible Employees

Most CSUMB employees are required to promptly report discrimination, sexual misconduct or retaliation.

Duty to Report/Responsible Employees
Almost all CSUMB employees have a “duty to report.” This means you must notify the Title IX/DHR Office if you hear about allegations that could violate Title IX or the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy.

The only exceptions are certain healthcare providers. If you are exempt, you will know.

Mandated Reporter
Certain employees are required to report suspected child abuse or neglect; these are mostly people who work with minors. If you are a mandated reporter, you will be notified by HR.

What You Need to Make a Report

If you are a Responsible Employee and become aware of an incident, you must share all information available to you, including the names of parties involved — even if they’ve asked to remain anonymous. The Title IX coordinator knows all the sensitivity and confidentiality rules for everyone involved.

To help you prepare to submit your report, the online form asks for:

  • Your name, position, and contact information
  • Date of incident (required)
  • Time of incident
  • Location of incident - in person or online (required)
  • Specific location
  • Involved parties (including student ID numbers, if applicable)
  • Category(ies) and protected status(es) that apply to report (required)
  • Detailed description of incident/concern (required)
  • Supporting documentation (photos, video, audio, screenshots, etc.)

Next Steps: Filing Your Report

Complete our online Sexual Misconduct and Discrimination / Harassment Report form. If you have questions about the process or the form itself, please email us at titleix_dhr@csumb.edu or call our main office at (831) 582-4084. Email is recommended for the fastest response.
