CSUMB celebrates International Women’s Day 2024 on Friday, March 8

The multiple events are open to the public and include a summit with workshops, seminars, speakers and more.

This year’s campus events in celebration of International Women’s Day, March 8 at the Otter Student Union, are billed as “International Womxn’s Day” – the “x” signaling an inclusive definition of gender.

The multiple events are open to the public and include a summit with workshops, seminars, speakers and more.

It begins with a mothers brunch, 10 - 11:30 a.m., to celebrate mothers on campus and give them an opportunity to mix, mingle and learn about campus resources.

A sexual education workshop from noon to 1:30 p.m. will cover the menstrual cycle, queer sex-ed, and stigmas surrounding sexual empowerment. Roxanna Curiel will be the guest speaker.

The Womxns Inclusivity Panel from 3 - 4 p.m. will feature Vanessa Lopez-Littleton, Nhizoni Chow Garcia, Rachelle Escamilla and Linda Schaedle.

It’s all capped off with the exclusive Gurls’ Night Dance Party featuring an open mic at 7 p.m. for poetry, singing and other performances. A dance party follows from 8 - 10 p.m. with mocktails, a photo booth, spoken-word and hip-hop artist Melody!, and the evening's mistress of ceremonies DJ Baby Dizzle.

According to the organizers, International Womxn’s Day “recognizes and celebrates womxn, femme, and non-binary individuals who have made significant contributions towards gender equity, feminist liberation, and intersectional approaches to their work and activism.”

All the events are free to the public and take place at the Otter Student Union, 3118 Inter-Garrison Road, Seaside. Go to the webpage for information,  registration and updates.
