Led by Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer Tara Hughes, our office provides strategic leadership for Information Technology at Cal State Monterey Bay. Our CIO guides technology strategy, governance and operations to support student success and advance the university’s mission.

Through thoughtful planning, responsible stewardship and campus collaboration, the Office of the CIO ensures that technology services are innovative, secure and aligned with institutional priorities.

What We Lead

Strategic Technology Planning

We develop and guide the university’s information technology strategy, partnering with campus leaders to identify priorities, invest in innovation and strengthen digital infrastructure.

Budget Development & Oversight

We lead budget planning and financial oversight for campus Information Technology, ensuring resources are managed responsibly and aligned with university priorities.

Policy Development & Compliance

We establish and oversee IT policies that support compliance with CSU, state and federal regulations while promoting secure, accessible and reliable systems.

Administrative Support

We coordinate administrative and operational support services that enable Information Technology to function effectively.

How We Support the Campus

  • Deliver reliable, high-quality internet connectivity and digital workspaces

  • Ensure compliance with systemwide, state and federal policies

  • Represent Information Technology at the President’s Cabinet through CIO Tara Hughes
