Supporting Students Through Strategic Partnerships

The Office of Government Relations and Strategic Engagement connects Cal State Monterey Bay with local, state and federal leaders to advance policies, partnerships and investments that benefit students, the campus and the broader community.

The office advocates for resources that expand access to higher education, support student success and strengthen the Central Coast region. Through collaboration with public agencies, elected officials and community partners, it ensures the university’s priorities are clearly represented and understood.

Advocate for Cal State Monterey Bay

The Office of Government Relations and Strategic Engagement works with policymakers and public agencies to support legislation, funding and initiatives aligned with the university’s mission.

Key priorities include:

  • Expanding access to affordable, high-quality education
  • Securing funding for student programs, research and campus development
  • Advancing policies that promote equity, innovation and economic mobility

Build Meaningful Partnerships

Monitor Policy and Inform Leadership

Legislative and policy developments are continuously tracked to provide timely guidance to campus leadership. This work helps the university:

Support Responsible Communication and Transparency

In coordination with university leadership and communications teams, the office ensures clear, accurate and timely information — especially during complex or high-profile situations.

This includes:

  • Coordinating responses to public records requests
  • Supporting crisis communication planning and response
  • Providing guidance on public messaging and external engagement

Government relations and strategic engagement play a vital role in advancing Cal State Monterey Bay’s mission to provide accessible, inclusive and transformative education.
