College of Business Showcase Logo 2024

The College of Business Showcase is an annual event where we recognize and celebrate College of Business Graduating Seniors, Business and Community Leaders, Outstanding Students, Donors, and Volunteers who support the College of Business.

This year's event was on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the University Center at Cal State Monterey Bay. All graduating seniors were invited to attend, courtesy of our wonderful table sponsors, and were honored with Kukui bead necklaces, a Hawaiian symbol of knowledge and enlightenment.

Matthew Cain - Outstanding MBA Student, Business Showcase 2024

 

Outstanding MBA Student 

Matthew Cain

Matt worked full-time while undertaking his MBA, achieving a 4.0 GPA in the MBA. As a leader in his cohort, he focused on a positive approach and used best practices he learned in the program, applying them at work, as well.

His commitment to the principles of responsible business espoused in the CSUMB MBA is demonstrated in his work and his volunteer activities. In addition to being a Boy Scout leader and mentor to kids through outdoor activities and community service projects, he participates in community engagement initiatives aimed at raising awareness about societal issues such as DUI prevention among teens. Just like in the MBA, he uses empathy and compassion to connect with others and make a positive change in the lives of others and his community

Kathryn Shepherd

Kathryn Shepherd is honored with the BSSHM Outstanding Graduating Student Award for her exemplary dedication to sustainable hospitality management. Hailing from Yorba Linda, with roots in Fort Worth, Texas, Kate embodies a spirit of exploration and purpose. She embraced every opportunity within the program, from leadership roles in clubs to volunteering and research contributions. Kate's journey led her to a role in guest experiences at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where she will continue post-graduation.

Berenice Lemus - Outstanding Student, Business Showcase 2024

 

Outstanding BSBA Student

Berenice Lemus

Berenice Lemus, born in Mexico and immigrated to the US, broke barriers as the first in her family to graduate college. Inspired by her hardworking parents, who were field workers in Lindsay, California, Bere's determination to excel led her to academic success, consistently making the Dean’s List. Engaging actively in various roles, including as a student assistant and President of the Accounting Society, she represents her field as a CalCPA industry influencer and ambassador on campus. Bere's journey continues as she prepares to pursue a Master's in Accounting with a focus on Information Systems and Control at the University of South Carolina.

Leinette Limtiaco

President and CEO of Central Coast Federal Credit Union

Leinette Limtiaco, President and CEO of Central Coast Federal Credit Union, brings nearly 30 years of industry experience. Starting at Fort Ord Federal Credit Union in 1985, she rose through the ranks to her current position. Leinette holds a BS in Business Administration and is pursuing her MBA at the University of Phoenix. Actively involved in her community, she serves on multiple boards and holds leadership positions in professional organizations.

Outstanding Business Leadership

Ernie Pineda

Regional Bank President at Wells Fargo

Ernie Pineda boasts 30+ years in banking, including 18 with Wells Fargo. As Regional Bank President for Wells Fargo's Central Coast market, he oversees 1,515 team members and 72 branches across multiple counties. Ernie's leadership extends to board roles at the Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army. A graduate of National University, he completed the Wells Fargo Business Acumen Leadership Program. Ernie also serves on the Business Advisory Council for CSUMB's College of Business.

Dr. Brad Barbeau

Ph.D., Professor of Entrepreneurship and iiED Executive Director

Dr. Brad Barbeau, Ph.D., is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at CSU Monterey Bay and Executive Director at the CSUMB Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (iiED). He passionately fosters entrepreneurial spirit, teaching entrepreneurship and finance with acclaimed mentorship. As iiED's Executive Director, he drives initiatives to boost innovation in the Monterey Bay region. Beyond academia, Dr. Barbeau advises startup enterprises, leveraging his diverse academic background, including degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

Mary Jo Zenk

iiED Program Manager

Mary Jo Zenk is the Program Manager at CSUMB’s Institute for Innovation & Economic Development (iiED). With over 30 years of public and nonprofit management experience, she mentors iiED interns, guiding over 100 individuals. Holding degrees from Santa Clara University and the University of Maryland, along with CPA certification, she brings extensive expertise. Mary Jo extends her knowledge as a lecturer and author, further solidifying her reputation as a thought leader.
