The 2024 International Responsible Business Social Impact (IRBSI) Symposium, held on December 3, 2024, brought together global leaders, academics, and industry experts to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is driving transformative change in healthcare, renewable energy, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. This year’s theme, "Tech for Good," highlighted the role of cutting-edge technology in shaping a more sustainable and equitable future.

With over 300 participants joining virtually, moderated by the co-founders and organizers from CSUMB, Dr. Eric Tao, Professor of Computer Science and Dr. Jenny Lin, Associate Professor of Marketing, the symposium featured insightful presentations, dynamic discussions, and forward-thinking research on leveraging AI responsibly for social and environmental impact. The symposium’s distinguished speakers provided groundbreaking insights:

  • Dr. Yin-Hsiung Hsu shared advancements in AI-powered Smart Healthcare, showcasing innovations that enhance medical accessibility and efficiency.
  • Dr. Ya-Hui (Emma) Yang highlighted the transformative role of Big Data in Health Management, particularly in disease prevention and patient care.
  • Dr. Hsin-Lu Chang emphasized the significance of ESG Data Governance in Manufacturing, blending technology with sustainable practices.
  • Dr. Hsiang-He Lee delved into the role of AI in tackling Climate Change through clean energy solutions.
  • Mr. Craig Vachon inspired participants with examples of Human-AI Collaboration in accelerating global clean energy transitions.
  • Dr. Mohamed Abouzahra provided insights into the application of AI Models in Healthcare, focusing on precision medicine and patient-centric innovations.

Innovation for Social Impact Competition

The first inaugural "Innovation for Social Impact Competition" was held during the second part of the symposium. The competition celebrates social venture ideas and businesses created by CSUMB students. Please join us in congratulating the two winners of the competition: Perla Zuniga (MBA '24) won Best Social Venture Award and Odile Lomas (MBA '24) won the Most Innovative Award. Cash awards are presented by Silicon Valley Research Institute (SVRI) to the two winners and they are invited to be members of the Business Forge through iiED.

The key organizers, Dr. Jenny Lin and Dr. Eric Tao, hope to continue to build on the momentum of this event as we work toward a future where technology serves as a force for good.

The IRBSI Symposium was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Institute for Innovation and Economic Development (iiED) at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and the Sinyi Research Center in Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility at National Cheng-Chi University (NCCU). This partnership provided a platform for impactful conversations and shared innovations.
