Our Greek life includes recognized fraternities and sororities governed by the United Sorority and Fraternity Council (USFC). Each organization has its own identity, values and philanthropic focus, giving you the freedom to find the right fit.

How to Join Greek Life

Joining Greek Life is a process, not a single event. You’re encouraged to explore, ask questions and take your time finding the right fit.

Getting started:

  1. Meet organizations at tabling events and showcases.
  2. Attend open recruitment or intake events.
  3. Talk with members and chapter leaders.
  4. Learn about expectations, time commitments and dues.
  5. Decide what feels right for you.

There’s no minimum number of events required, and participation varies by organization.

Safety, Accountability and Transparency

Cal State Monterey Bay is committed to a safe, respectful Greek life experience.

  • Hazing is strictly prohibited.
  • All recognized organizations follow university policies and state law.
  • Transparency requirements are guided by AB-524.
  • Concerns can be reported through official university channels.

Greek life includes social, service and leadership-focused organizations that build community and connection.

No. Cal State Monterey Bay does not have chapter houses, and housing is not required.

Dues vary from organization to organization. Some dues are paid annually, while some require a one-time lump payment. They range from $100 to as much as $1,000, as each organization sets its own dues. Some organizations have payment plans you can set up. Be sure to email the organization you are interested in to get more information.

Eligibility depends on the organization. Many chapters welcome first-year and transfer students.

The first semester is typically the most involved. Meetings and events are planned in advance.

Greek life is designed to support your academic success and your campus involvement. Many members balance leadership and service commitments while earning a place on the dean’s list, and organizations often encourage accountability, time management and academic focus.

Through officer roles and shared responsibilities, Greek life provides practical leadership experience while keeping you connected to a close-knit campus community.

Service is built into Greek life. Members regularly participate in community projects and philanthropic efforts that create impact beyond campus.
