Early Assessment Program

Helping high school students prepare for college-level learning with confidence.

Get Ready for College-Level Work

The Early Assessment Program (EAP) supports California high school students as they prepare for entry into the CSU system. By identifying academic strengths early and offering guidance during 12th grade, EAP helps students transition smoothly into college-level English and math, saving time, money and uncertainty once they arrive on campus.

Why the Early Assessment Program Matters

More than half of incoming CSU freshmen need extra support in English, math or both, even if they completed college-prep coursework in high school. EAP addresses this challenge by giving students and families a clearer picture of academic readiness before graduation, so they can take meaningful steps — without the surprise of additional requirements after admission.

How the Program Works

The Early Assessment Program includes three key components:

Early Testing

Gives students an early indicator of their readiness for college-level English and math.

Twelfth Grade Preparation Opportunities

Provides additional coursework and resources to help students strengthen skills before enrolling at CSU.

Professional Development for Teachers

Offers training and support for high school English and mathematics teachers to align instruction with CSU expectations.
