Alumni Advisory Group member uniquely prepared to help fellow Otters

CSUMB Alumni Advisory Group member Israel Nery wants current and future students to know that the CSUMB alumni network is ready to help them navigate their studies and careers. He’s seen that network grow since the time he graduated in 2009 with a business degree, with alumni doing amazing things across the country.
Nery believes in the power of the network because of the pivotal role a fellow alum played in his career trajectory. Early in his professional life, Nery’s resume landed on the desk of a fellow Otter, resulting in a job offer he calls “transformative.”
The job was with RockCorps, an organization that incentivized people to volunteer in their local community by offering them tickets to private concerts. The performances featured big names in music like Lady Gaga, P. Diddy, and Busta Rhymes. Following the concerts, many of the volunteers continued their service without needing additional incentives.
“That job showed me how I could merge my desire to serve the community with my career,” said Nery.
