CSUMB has added a host of new majors in recent weeks.

Over the past two months, Cal State Monterey Bay has added five new degrees and an online avenue to an existing major.
On July 24, the California State University Chancellor’s Office announced it had approved bachelor’s degrees for CSUMB in the subjects of history, communications and an online kinesiology degree. In previous weeks, the office had approved a new one-year accelerated master’s degree in computer science and bachelor’s degree programs in public health and interdisciplinary studies.
The latter two of these will welcome their first cohorts of students this fall. The online kinesiology degree will start next summer and the remaining degrees will launch in Fall 2027.
The history and communications majors have been years in the making, said James Hussar, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. They will enhance the college’s profile, he added.
“They immediately make us more visible,” Hussar said. “And they make the students more marketable, once they receive their degrees.”
Those sentiments are shared across the various departments offering the new majors. Phillip Post, dean of the College of Health Science and Human Services, said the public policy degree is an important addition to CSUMB’s arsenal.
Students interested in the field, he said, “now can see us as a go-to institution.”
