Cal State Monterey Bay will welcome prospective students for Admitted Otter Day on April 11. Students who have received confirmation of their admission to the university and their supporters will be able to engage with campus life and academics through a number of activities and get a sense of what it means to be an Otter. Transfer students will have their own day on April 25.
"Cal State Monterey Bay is a place where students feel welcome and supported," said CSUMB President Vanya Quiñones. "Admitted Otter Day is our opportunity to show potential students what life is like as an Otter and what it means to be part of our Otter Raft, with all of our excellent academic programs, student support resources, and of course, our beautiful locale. I especially enjoy talking to students and families as they discover what a great place we have here."
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore academic interests, take guided tours, and discover a range of organizations. Among the events are the following:
Kaci Turpin, director of New Student Programs, said there are many good reasons for students to take advantage of the event.
"Admitted Otter Day is always bustling with excitement,” Turpin said. “It is an excellent opportunity for students and families to envision themselves on campus. Throughout the day, attendees can register for mock classes that offer a glimpse into academic life.
"A professor in our College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is doing a mock class on Bad Bunny and the Latinx revolution that I think will speak to a lot of people,” she added. “But there are also more than 20 other class sessions to choose from."
And there’s much more.
"There will also be campus tours and the chance to preview residence halls,” Turpin said. “It will certainly be a lively event, and I recommend that people download the CSUMB Admissions app in advance to plan out their day."
CSUMB offers more than 80 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations, as well as graduate programs. The university has a reputation for social mobility and value. It’s also known to attract a diverse student body. Many are first-generation college students.
Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management Elizabeth Rountree said this is a pivotal moment in the lives of students.
"Spring is the time when students and their supporters are making important decisions about what college is the right fit for them," Rountree said. "We want them to picture their future with us as a college student and as a graduate. We hope students get a true sense of how a Cal State Monterey Bay college degree can change their lives."
Activities on April 11 are held in two sessions, the first from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second from 12:30-5 p.m.
On April 25, the campus will welcome transfers at Admitted Transfer Day, which features many of the same activities, with one session from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students should register for both events ahead of time.
