Forbes released their latest “America’s Top Colleges” rankings, and Cal State Monterey Bay placed admirably among them.

CSUMB placed 8th among medium-size schools in California, and 4th among medium-size California schools in suburban settings (as opposed to rural or urban).

Forbes used 14 metrics to determine which 500 colleges, according to their website, “offer the best educational, financial and career outcomes for all students.”

Their rankings are based on factors such as outcomes for undergraduates, return on investment, average student debt, retention, graduating on time and salaries after graduation. They also gave extra points to colleges that enrolled more low-income students.

In August, Washington Monthly magazine ranked CSUMB 48th in the nation on its 2025 Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars list.
