First run of Monte’s 5K yields $2,000 for scholarships

Nearly $2,000 in scholarship money was raised from the inaugural Monte’s 5K

Nearly $2,000 in scholarship money was raised from the inaugural Monte’s 5K run/walk/roll during CSUMB’s RAFT Weekend, according to Jeff Rensel, director of the Otter Student Union, which sponsored the event.

The race drew registrations from 191 students and 198 non-students. A total of 299 actually ran, walked or rolled the course that weaved through the campus, going as far west as CSUMB Stadium and east to Seventh Street.

Rensel said $3,946.44 was raised from registration fees, with $10 from each non-student runner going toward the scholarship fund, a total of $1,980. The remaining money was used to help pay for the event.
